advertisements (task 2 working on 7.5 )

Post by raghadmamd »

Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?

There is no doubt that advertisements are overwhelming in recent decades, notably coinciding with the huge development in technology. Most of these advertisements have variable effects on us some of them are indeed harmful. In this essay, I will explore the degree of advertisement influences and what can be done to minimize them.
First of all, it is undeniable that advertisements are surrounding us everywhere, whether through television, the internet, or in streets. For example, it is quite common to see almost twenty adverts during watching your favourite movie. Even while exploring news on the internet, you definitely will see some flash flyers inviting you to open their websites or to know about their new product. Some companies use more intelligent methods by putting their poster in lifts or metro stations so most of the people will spend their waiting time in seeing their posters.
The advertisement has its advantages if it is used in the right way, as being a method of knowledge of some new products and to be truthful. Some of the adverts are deceiving consumers. For instance, advertisements about some medical treatment which is not approved by the concerned authority, they might have disastrous actions. The solution for the government is to apply strict policies and ban all type of unapproved medical and herbal promotions. Same as Alcohol and cigarettes as followed in many countries, the company ought to clearly state their serious effect on the packets.
Another way of advertisements is promotions which we usually face in hypermarkets. The companies used to keep their items at reduced prices, or offer prizes. In this way, some customers might buy things which they really do not need and sometimes these items are very near to expiry date. To tackle this problem, it is better to keep a list of your wanted items before you going shopping and keep your budget on the same level and do not exceed it.
To sum up, advertisements have influences on us. The government should do its role in eliminating the dangerous effects and individuals should do their best not to be deceived.

Hello!

OK on how advertising works - though you don't actually say to what extent you think people are influenced by them.

With regard to solutions, not so good.
1. Why doesn't the government already have such controls?
2. In most countries, people know the effects of cigarettes and they have warnings on packets, so why isn't it working?
3. Do people only buy things they don't need because they are at reduced prices?
4. Why shouldn't people buy items that are reduced? After all, you do say that people need to budget.

Overall, not a good essay. One part of the question is not answered and the other is answered very generally and with very weak arguments.

All the best,
David
