IELTS 21 June RESULTS

Post by Ambicia »

Hi Guys,

Let's share our results (21 June).
I had an academic module and took my exam for the first time.

Listening 8.0
Reading 7.0
Writing 6.5
Speaking 7.0
Overall 7.0

I'm really disappointed with my writing since I got much higher score during my classes with a teacher and I was very confident about my writing...

Thinking about appeal... Would you suggest do it or not?

Thanks.

Hi Ambicia,

Congrats. If you feel confident about your writing, then I'd say go ahead. I heard in one of Ryan's interviews with the test takers, someone reviewed the writing and the difference was a full band score.

This is what I got with my GT module =>

Listening 7.5
Reading 9.0
Writing 7.5
Speaking 7.5
-----------------
Overall 8.0

I'm really disappointed with the Listening part. I'm not sure How I missed so many in that. During my test preparation, Listening was the one where I used to score the highest. Don't know what happened.

In anyway, this was my first attempt and I'm contemplating a retake. I need atleast an 8 in the listening.

Hope everyone gets their expected result.

Hey! Congrats, your results are still pretty good ;)

For the writing, you could appeal in two cases I think:
- You need it (score above 7.0 in order to apply for a university, for instance)
- You have largely enough money and time

If the amount required to lodge an appeal is somewhat high compared to your revenues and/or national currency strength and if you do not entirely need it, I would advise you to keep this score as it is.

Hi Guys,

My result is worst ever;

L 8.5, R 7, S 6, W 6.5

I never expected such low score in my speaking, in fact I scored band 7 on my last exam in Speaking; also after one month of hard work...talking to people on Skype...never think of such band..

I know something went wrong; but need to analyse

anyway..before taking another one...

Hope everyone would receive their favorable results....

I never thought that I will fail on reading.
I scored 7 on speaking before.

the only good thing is that I got 7 on writing this time.

Hi all!
These are my scores
Reading 9
Listening 9
Writing 7
Speaking 8.5

Overall 8.5

Was wondering if others scored badly in writing as compared to others. Can I appeal and see my marked answers? What's the procedure?

Congratulation.

btw, imo, there are dim chances of increase of writing band by 1 in reevaluation.

would you mind sharing some preparation tips with the group?

Thanks,

Sure!

For the reading module, you need to practice all the tests given in the exercise book. I used this trick where I read every para separately and wrote a brief gist right next to the para. This helps with the questions wherein you need to point out which para contains what info.

I'm addicted to the Sherlock series on BBC. Right before the listening test, I watched all try reruns! ;) its a fun way to get used to the accent. The more familiar you are with the accent, the better you'll do.

For the speaking test, practice in front of a mirror. You'll see your own body language and be conscious of the way you speak. Do not rush to answer the examiner. Take 3 seconds to get your thoughts in order. Haphazard sequence and use of fillers like umm, actually, like should be avoided..

Lastly, I'm doing a journalism course so writing comes naturally. The sequence of ideas is what they look for along with grammar and spelling. Chart out your essay before beginning.

That's all! Hope it helps!

Hi mate,

I am with you.. I am a university research student in Melbourne and need to score 6 in each in order to apply for my graduate visa. I always got high distinction for my work and currently now I will be graduating with a distinction. I gave this exam on 7th June and score only 5 for writing which shocked me to the core. I never thought that I would get such low score either IELTS people think I am fool or my university professors think my work is not up to level.

This exam is a big piece of shit.. we need to settle in Australia and they need money from us.. They are doing a bloody good job..

Anyways, I am appearing again on 12th .. lets C everything goes in my favor..

Hi Geo,

English people are not foolish; they must have asked you to sign the terms and conditions when you registered;

So, if you take to court, you would lose money;

But try to find other options if any; may be tribunal or human rights; actually i don't know...
could be education board in Australia and claim that IELTS are treating students with unfair game; they probably look at it, but I understand that these centres are making use of students to make profit.

anyway, good luck for your next test;

I got Listening - 7.5, Reading - 6, Writing - 7 and Speaking - 7.5

I am finding it hard to get 7 in Reading.

If any of you could help me or at least suggest me the techniques you use... that would be great..

Hi Akshay!
Here are the techniques I used when I answered the reading test. I hope this will help you increase your bandscore in reading.

When answering T/F/NG, take note that the passage mentions something about it.
True- synonyms
False- antonyms

However for Not Given, it is not totally mentioned in the passage.

When answering YES/No/NG, the idea may not be mentioned word for word in the passage, because it is usually the WRITER'S PERCEPTION what is being asked.

Do all the markings that you need, especially the NUMBER OF WORDS.
Even if the question is asking for 2 words, you can answer 1 word only especially if you are not sure if the adjective is needed. So, it is always best to answer the NOUN

* for T/F/NG, Y/N,NG and FILL IN THE BLANKS, usually the answers are arranged in SEQUENCE.

When answering HEADINGS.
ANSWER IT LAST, IT IS TOO TIME CONSUMING SO BETTER ANSWER THE OTHER ITEMS OF THE SAME PASSAGE, AT THE TIME YOU ANSWER THE HEADINGS, YOU HAVE READ ALREADY MOST OF THE PASSAGE, THEREFORE IT IS EASIER FOR YOU TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

Best of luck!
