The subjects that children are taught in schools are decided by central authorities. Some people say that teachers, not politicians, should be responsible for this task. To what extent you agree or disagree With this opinion?
Education has been singled out as a vital tool that distinguishes human being from animals. It is commonly believed that a good teacher is the bedrock of a prosperous society. Whilst I tend toward the idea that teachers should be the main authority to decide about the subjects being taught at schools, I would have to agree that we can not negate the role of politicians as well.
On one hand, teachers know the weightage of each subject and its potential impacts on students. For example, the Government of Pakistan has appointed a committee of teachers who decide about which subjects should be taught in different grades at schools. This practice, in turn, has bolstered the failing education system of the Pakistan. Hence, only those subjects are taught to students in schools which are fruitful for them down the road.
Nevertheless, we can not deny the indispensable role of central authorities in this whole scenario. Referring back to the aforementioned example, the committee of teachers submit the proposals and decisions to the minister-the education watchdog who makes sure the implementation of these decisions. Furthermore, he also serves the purpose of raising the voice of teaches in the Parliament of the Pakistan. Thus, education ministry in collaboration with teachers and the federal government run the education system. Therefore, this much role of politicians is inevitable to ensure the integrity and sound functioning of the system.
In conclusion, teachers should have the decisive power about the subjects that are taught in schools and politicians should back them with an all-out effort.
