Due to steady increase in population across globe, we are cutting down more trees to provide infrastructure to people and to build houses. Also, as the financial condition of people are improving, they are opting for private vehicles to commute rather than using public transport. These are resulting in deforestation, air and noise pollution. The government has to take measures either by law or through media to make people aware of the necessity to safeguard our environment.
Due to excessive use of private vehicles, we releasing huge amount of carbon dioxide to the nature. As a result of this excess CO2, we are facing global warming and even our ozone layer is depleting, there by exposing the people to harmful Ultra Violet rays of sun. The governments have to encourage people to use public transport by improving the infrastructure or by reducing the commuting cost or by increasing the connectivity and frequency. It should also provide subsidies to the greener vehicles. All these measures can help to reduce our CO2 footprint.
People to the larger extent are still unaware of the efficient use of water and its importance. Proper advertisements and awareness programs have to be used through different medias to enlighten people about this. There should be a law in place to make rain water harvesting mandatory to all buildings. So that ground water table can be increased.
Many trees are cut to construct buildings or houses and even forests are being deserted. This has caused soil erosion which might result in calamities like flash floods. There should be strict laws for the approval before cutting the trees.
Hence with the better and active involvement of government and adding laws where ever necessary, we can create a better surroundings with responsible citizens.

Hi, this is my response to the question. I know its a bit long but I am working on it!. I am aiming for a band of 7+ for GT. Any feedback would be appreciated :)

Today environmental pollution and specifically Global warming are hot topics for discussion. In the last century humans have expanded their carbon foot print by unimaginable proportions. Personal desire for more material objects and less sensitivity to nature could be the root cause. Better understanding of the bio-diversity around a person and more environmental awareness can help fight back this mentality.

Mass industrialization around the world created a massive demand for resources. These resources were often extracted at the cost of devastating loses to ecosystems. Swelling populations in the cities meant that city boundaries grew larger and larger. Cities soon started to behave like carbon dioxide production plants. Mega cities soon emerged that pushed animals and local habitats to the brink of extinction. The individual citizen has far less affect on the broader destruction of the environment it seems. It is the combined affect of a large hungry consumer base that does not care and are sometimes deliberately kept in the dark about the consequences. Cheap manufacturing techniques can also be blamed which reduce the prices of goods and services even lower. This makes them wanted bu more customers who could not afford it before.

Humans have become a blight on this planets ecosystem. They only focus on the end result and profits. It is ironic that even though humans have the most developed brains on the planet, they are the least sensitive to this destruction, Environmental conservation has to start inside the human mind first, Visual banners and graphic disaster images can only do so much. They have a tendency to numb the audience. The effects of global warming must be made relatable on a personal level to every individual. If some how a local ecological hazard can be tied directly to a person's actions, this will be make the problem much more distressing, Campaigns are already on their way with innovative ideas that encourage volunteering for different rehabilitation programs. These should continue and be better funded to spread the word even further.

In conclusion, it is absolutely vital that the consuming mentality of customers prevalent today be changed. Young and old should be provided but not flooded with effective information which invokes a passion to conserve nature.
