How to handle Agree or Disagree questions?

Hi All,

In writing task 2, you could see a question of type agree or disagree often. There are blogs, videos which tells us that we need to write the essay only one-sided i.e either agree fully or disagree fully. But not both.

Kindly let me know if we could write an essay like "partly" agree or "partly" disagree style? Note that I'm aiming for 7+ band score in writing.

Hello!

Great question! I VERY, VERY strongly suggest that candidates (especially those aiming higher than 6) should discuss both sides of an argument.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that the proposition in the statement(s) will be true for all people, so your essay should reflect this.

I've seen the videos, blogs, etc. that you mention and I just feel that they are very dishonest (or totally uninformed) about what makes a good essay.

I recommend books by Ryan or by my close friend Mark Griffiths (on Amazon) for more details.

All the best,
David
