Evaluate My Essay.....Animal Testing

Post by harshaabba »

should we use animal testing for medicine, cosmetics, chemicals and food products?

Over the last century, numerous scientists have been experimenting in their laboratories, trying to discover pharmaceuticals to fight various diseases. Their method of testing medicinal drugs and other products on animals generates vigorous social debate focused on the issue of morality. Some people believe that animals should be treated in the same way humans are and have similar rights, whereas others think that it is more important to use them as we desire for food and medical research.

First and foremost , Every day thousands of people are saved from painful diseases and death by powerful medical drugs and treatments. This incredible gift of medicine would not be possible without animal testing. For instance, many famous lifesaving drugs were invented in this way, and animal experiments may help us to find more cures in the future. Indeed, possibly even a cure for cancer and AIDS. . Without animal testing, the cure for polio would not exist and diabetics would suffer or die from their disease.

In addition, animals share many features with humans, scientists use animals to test the safety and effectiveness of newly developed drugs before pilot testing on small groups of patients. Drugs in particular can carry significant dangers with their use but animal testing allow researchers to initially gauge safety of the drugs prior to commencing trials on humans. In addition they believe that humans are the most important human beings in the planet, so they believe that everything should be done for their survival. Is it worth to risk a human life to test new medicine ? it may be a necessary evil where new drugs and medical procedures are concerned. New techniques such as transplants and etc. are being practiced on animals by medical teams.

Last but not least , at present apart from animal testing, there is no better and safe method of testing. Computer testing is a good option. But technology has not so advanced that drug testing can be done using computers. Computers can generally be used to gather, and analyze the observations and results of the tests; they cannot be substitute to animal testing.

However, the critics of animal experiments, who struggle to abolish the practice altogether, offer a variety of arguments. First of all, they contend that animals may react differently because they are not in the same condition as they used to live with nature. They kept in small cages for large period of time and suffer from stress, anxiety and various health related disorders. As a consequence, this testing may not be providing the safety that its proponents claim. In addition , even if a medicament or another product proves efficient on animals, this does not necessarily mean that it will be just as efficacious for humans.
Secondly , it is immoral and inhumane when researchers make other creatures suffer or even die during the laboratory tests. Some of the tests certainly seem painful, humans have no right to subject animals to this kind of trauma, and that the lives of all creatures should be respected. They believe that the benefits to humans do not justify the suffering caused.

In conclusion , although personally I disapprove of making living creatures suffer, all in all I feel obliged to accept medical experiments on animals as the best viable solution nowadays. The reason is that human life is more valuable, and efficient drugs could save millions.
