In some countries fast food restaurant and supermarkets give money to schools to promote the products.
Do you think this is positive or negative development?

The health of young people very much depends on the diet that they had during their childhood. Children spend 6-10 hours of their day in school, and such places should provide an unbiased and healthy environment. A very worrying trend is being observed in some countries, where fast-food restaurants and supermarkets are giving money to schools in lieu of promotion of their products.

Schools always have a tight budget and they may be willing to take money so that they can provide better infrastructure to their students. The obligation of promoting specific products then will introduce partiality in the sacred environment and will be unfair to the market. This will undermine the true sense of competition among the providers and will be unfair to those who play by the rules.

Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the schools to inculcate healthy eating habits in their pupil. It has been scientifically proven that fast food and processed foods are not good for anybody's health. For example, eating of fried foods like burgers and chips causes obesity. These foods are laced with harmful chemicals and have very low nutrition value. If schools will promote such food items, it may make the children believe that these are good products, and also they may develop a taste for such ready to eat food products, which they will find difficult to get rid of in later years.

Schools should be provided adequate funds and their management should be made aware of the harmful effects of fast food and processed food on a child's health so they never take money from restaurant and supermarkets. It is also the responsibility of the governments to bring in adequate laws that will prevent this negative development.
