It has been said that people who read for pleasure have developed imaginations and gained better language skills than people who prefer watching TV.
Do you agree or disagree?

There are few activities better suited to assist in developing linguistical skills and highly imaginative mind than reading. I strongly believe that watching TV, while beneficial to some extent for acquisition of a spoken language,
cannot compete with books in this regard and does not contribute towards imagination development.

Firstly, reading is an activity that requires our brain to process and complete information. The written words can only convey a description, but it's a function of our mind to turn them into colorful picture,
to fill in the gaps, to create faces and story setups based on the book's clues. Our mind is wandering to different unreal places when we are getting immersed into a skillfully created story thus
promoting our ability of abstract thinking and improving our imagination. In contrast to reading, TV programs feed people with pre-processed information, where words have been turned into pictures,
characters given faces and voices and there has been very little left for imagination. Human mind is mostly inactive while watching the screen and thus imagination cannot improve as a result of this activity.

In addition to the active processing of the information described above, reading will assist in besting language skills.
The correct spelling and grammar is imprinted into reader's mind unobtrusively improving person's command of the language skills.
Since the books mostly use well developed and picturesque language rather than drawings to create an atmosphere of story,
reader would probably subconsciously grasp advanced language devices needed to create powerful writings.
In contrast with the language learning process associated with reading, TV is mostly built upon dialogues and is implicitly avoiding complicated vocabulary and structures.
While listening to TV programs might improve person's pronunciation, it's contribution towards spelling and grammar skills would be negligible.
Thus, reading is a much better device for acquiring reach and expressive language.

In conclusion, it is my firm belief that reading is the best way to highly developed imagination and good command over a language.
It assists human mind in creating new reality based on written information and in mastering language through visual memory and usage of advanced language techniques.
Books are invaluable friends and hopefully will never be replaced by any modern device or gadget.
