Answer:

With the advances in

With the recent advances in medical and psychosocial fields the mean age of poulation has risen significantly, accompanied by improved quality of life at older age. Nevertheless, the age of retirement remained constant for ages. I believe that raising the age of retirement should be raised propotionately.

The rise of average age have two consequences. Firstly, it means that we have an increased proportion of older people in the community. If those people are retired at the same age they used to, a higher proportion of unemployment would result. This of course would increase the burden on national income. Meanwhile this part of the community would require higher medical care expences. Secondly, alot of those older people would still be physically and mentally fit, and could be considered a lost work force. A lot of them would actually be willing to keep working, specially that they still have the ability to achieve self esteem and acquire positive attitude through the work they do. My own father after reaching the age of retirement, chose not to stay at home, but to find an even better job and kept working for years. This choice had a very positive effect on his own health and well being, and on the whole family as it kept a stable and even rising source of income.

On the other hand, some may argue that early retirement would vacant more jobs for younger generations. Consequently, reduce unemployment among young people whoe graduate to find it very difficult to find a job. This would also mean that more jobs would be occupid by younger persons who are more productive and ambitious. Delaying the age of retirement then would put higher pressure on governments to creat innovative job opportunities that would accept younger generations instead of just replacing older people with youth in the same work tree. This itself would have a positive impact on the socioeconomic status of the community.

In short, I agree that increasing age of retirement should go with the longer life expectations, as this would have positively affect elder people as well as the community.
