General Task 2

It is becoming more and more difficult to escape the influence of the media on our lives.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a media rich society.


Nowadays media makes a great influence on our lives. In fact, we live in the informational technology century, as a result information surrounded us everywhere. This essay will analyze both the advantages and disadvantages of living in a media rich society before the reasoned conclusion will be drawn.

On the one hand, unlimited access to the information lets us a great opportunity discover something new every day. For instance, Wikipedia is the biggest online encyclopedia where can be found totally various data such as biography of famous person, some sport rules description or even physic’s laws clarification for free. It is clear that online resources help us keep abreast of the latest developments since almost everybody has access to the internet via smartphone or laptop. Because of this, the advantage of media development can be seen.

However, some people claim that obsessive media irritated them than arouse interest. For example, colourful advertisements want us to buy a new clothes, gadgets and services while going by the metro, using the internet or walking by the street. In addition, there is keen competition among media resources for attracting public interest, consequently some of them falsify information or publish gossips. As a result, people no longer watching TV or reading newspapers, because it clutter their mind with trivialities. Thus, the reasons above clearly shows the disadvantages of media rich society.

To conclude, despite disadvantages which are sometimes annoying, I suppose that living in a media rich society is a significant advantage of modern generation. It is believed that there will be a great changes in the media industry in the near future which will improve the human’s life quality.

Hello!

I think your main points are good, but be careful with details - "people no longer watching TV or reading newspapers" - yes, they do! This is good example of how poor use of grammar and vocabulary can change the meaning of a sentence and idea, creating a poor impression on the examiner.

In your conclusion, you fail to explain why you think the advantages are greater than the disadvantages. "It is believed ..." - who by?
