Buildings these days are not so distinctive as before, making it harder to distinguish different cultures in other societies. As the mutual communication among societies increasing, appreciation of architectures of people all over the world tend to be integrated and the notion regarding being international as fashion even drives the situation further. While modern buildings are symbols of developed societies, preservation of building with local culture is also crucial.

The tendency that buildings all over the world are pretty much the same is partly attributed to globalization. Accessibility to different areas enables people to know about buildings in other places and developing in line with global paces convinces people to accept and to learn from others as well. Gradually, as the shocks of architecture from outer world, people are more accommodated and even preferred exotic versions of building.

Additionally, internationalization of building designers also contributes to the similarity of today’s buildings. For instance, architects from Europe would like to insert some characters of buildings of their own when the design for an Asian country or maybe they tend to add some orient elements when they design for their own countries. Besides, communication and cooperation among world’s architects promote a common sense, resulting in a more consistent building style.

It is inevitable that people in different places share a similar taste of building as the world gets closer. But more or less, there are still something on buildings that could make a society stand out from others. Buildings symbolizing local cultures are also part of tangible heritages, whose thunder would never be stolen no matter how modern a society is.

All in all, globalization and people’s common recognition of building push modern building to develop in the way resembling each other. No matter how consistent the world would be, building presenting its own cultures is still worthy being reserved.
