Transportation provides a backbone for the economy, it not only carries people from one place to another and thus eliminating distances, it also carries goods from one place to another and helps in boosting businesses. There are different systems of transportation and I believe all of them have their place in today's world whereas there are people of prefer one mode of transportation like railways over another mode like roads.

On one hand, railways can carry the large amounts of goods and people from one place to another. While on the other hand, there is a lot of investment required to build ad upkeep the huge infrastructure. Rail system not only require tracks but it also requires station and coaches to run and once the infrastructure is built a constant watch is necessary to maintain the smooth functioning. For example, the problem of metal fatigue is very common once the stress is applied on the metal in railway track and thus constant maintenance is required.

Road transport has the advantage in the fact that it can connect people point to point. For example, A railways station can not be created at walking distance for everyone and people need road system to connect to railways.Further, Road transport is also more efficient when the lesser number of people need to travel or smaller quantity of goods need to be transported. On the contrary, road system is also a leading cause of deaths due to accidents.

In conclusion, while railways can carry large quantities of goods and people between particular points, road transport is necessary to provide last mile connectivity. Both the system also have their share of disadvantages like upkeep cost of railways is extremely high whereas roads are statistically dangerous. The government, therefore, can not decide to build just one of the systems and must invest and build both to create a perfect harmony.
