Any comments and estimated band score please.

Post by Matilda »

Do you like parks? Why? Why not?
How often do you visit parks?
Why are parks an important part of many towns and cities?
What do you think could be done to make parks better?

Nice speech, flawless fluency. And the best part (at least for me) was that you have a neutral accent, which makes it very easy to understand.
I just have to say one thing about it. You said something along the lines of "government is well aware of this facility". As far as I'm concerned, since we are talking about parks (plural), you should have said "these facilities" instead.

Hi all,
I gave another crack on the following topic. The speech is a bit short (only about 1 min+) as I run out of ideas to continue speaking. My target band score is 7. :D

Describe a party that you enjoyed
- Whose party it was and what it was celebrating
- where the party was held and who went to it
- what people did during the party
and explain what you enjoyed about this party

This is regarding the first recording:

Hi, Matilda,
Thank you for your recording. You did a nice job, overall.
First, your pronunciation was easy to understand, so nice work there.
Additionally, I like that you gave some examples of what you were talking about in your speech. You said, “for instance,” and this helps listeners follow what you’re saying. I would encourage you to use more transition words, such as “moreover,” or “furthermore” as you add reasons to support your opinion. You answered the questions directly, which also helps increase your overall score.
Your vocabulary included some higher-level words, which is good, and you didn’t overuse them, or use them incorrectly, which is a problem for many students. I heard “re-energize” and “longevity,” for example.”
Here are some grammar notes:
There are other, several reasons – There are several reasons. . .
The mother nature – no “the” in front of “mother nature”
From visiting these park – from visiting these PARKS
The best thing about visiting park is two reason – There are two reasons that parks are nice to visit.
Convenient location (when talking about PARKS) – convenient LOCATIONS
These kind of public facility – these kind of public FACILITIES

Thanks again for sharing your recording, and best wishes as you continue to practice!

This recording was short, as you said, but here are some notes:
1.) Perhaps you could have explained the picture tradition a bit more as I, as a person not familiar with this custom, am quite curious about it. What do people do with the pictures, exactly?
2.) Remember to stick your tongue between your teeth when you say the /th/ sound. You dropped it in the beginning part of the speech when you said “month.”
3.) You said, “there are a lot of program.” This should have been “There are a lot of programs.”
4.) Would remain for the rest of our life – We’re talking about more than one person here, so make “life” plural. It’s “lives.”
Best wishes as you continue to practice!

Hi Imoore,

I do appreciate for your time and effort in commenting on my speech. Now, I realize that I omitted "s" sounds in all plural nouns that I have discussed so far.
Sometimes, I was having trouble to lengthen my speech. Definitely, I will try to improve on all these issues.

Thanks heap Imoore. May god bless you.

Kind Regards,

Matilda
