Capitals or small letters? Abbreviations?

Post by Evgeniia » Fri Mar 04, 2016 9:44 am

Hi experts,

Could you please advise whether we should write word Internet with the capital letter. What about word TV?

Is it allowed to write TV or we need to write television?

Can we use etc in an essay?

Please also advise other examples of words that need to be written only in capitals.

Thank you in advance!

Most publications are now writing 'internet' with a lowercase 'i'. With regards to acronyms and initialisms, try to avoid them unless they are the more recognised reference. For example, you would probably be OK to use the initialism 'FBI' as it is the more common reference to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but this would not be the case for an acronym like 'NAFTA'.
