Part 2
"Some people believe that it is possible for a country to be economically progressive while having a clean environment at the same time. Some people disagree with this." Discuss both views and give your own opinion.


Speaking

Part 1
- Where are you from?
- Do you find your current place of residence exciting?
- Where would you like to live in the future?
- Why would you like to live in this place (above) in the future?
- What is interesting about the place you live?
- How long is your commute to work?
- Did you use a watch as a child?
- Do you think children should wear watches?
- Why do you think some people like to wear expensive watches?

Part 2
- Describe a book that you have read which you would like to read again.
- Explain why you would like to read it again.
- What is it about?
- What genre of book is it?
- Is this your favourite genre of book?

Part 3
- Do children need to learn how to read while they are still young?
- How important is it for children to have bedtime stories?
- Do you think there is a difference between reading habits in the past and in the present day?
- What is the impact of e-books on reading habits?
- How do you think reading habits will change in the future?

Chart giving information about the number of young people who smoke cigarettes in a European country between 1995 and 2005. Data is organised by age and gender. Need to answer questions in response to this data showing analytical skills.

Part 2
In some countries, parents are increasingly choosing to educate their children at home instead of sending them to school. Do you think the advantages of home education outweigh the disadvantages?

- When was it?
- Who was the person?
- What was the problem?
- How did they solve the problem?
- Do you feel that you are able to solve problems clearly?

Part 3
- Do you think that children are born clever or that they learn to be clever?
- What is the role of school in making children clever?
- Do you think parents play a role in making their children clever?
- Are all children equally blessed with a similar level of intelligence?
- Do people in your country use email?
- How often do you use email?
- Do you think email will be used more in the future?

Task 1

Two pie charts concerning language learning by a group of employees at an export company. One pie chart showed the method through which the employees were learning a new language (e.g. evening class, part-time). One pie chart showed the reasons why the employees were learning a new language (e.g. travel, business purposes, to communicate more effectively with overseas customers, etc.)

Task 2
Counties with long working days are more successful economically, but there are some negative social consequences. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

- Why do people like to know about their ancestors?
- How do people find out about their ancestors?
- What can the history of their ancestors tell people?

When R took the IELTS test in Botswana, he was asked the following Writing and Speaking questions:

Location: Botswana
Date: June 4th 2017

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given two pie charts describing university students of two age groups, below 25 and above 25. We had to analyze and summarize the information regarding reasons why students are choosing a certain university. There were about five or six reasons.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Nowadays more fathers remain at home taking care of children than in the past. Why is it happening? Is it a positive or negative development?

Speaking test

Interview
– What is your full name?
– Can I see your ID?
– Where are you from?
– Do you work or study?
– Tell me about the house where you live.
– Do you like the house where you live now?
– What would you like to change there if you had a chance?
– Do you prefer using buses or private transport for commuting?
– What can the government do to ensure safety of public transport?
– Would you prefer underground or surface transportation?

Cue Card
Talk about a time when you had to wait for something. Please say
– What were you waiting for and when?
– What did you do while waiting?
– What was the outcome?

Discussion
– Do you think older people manage time better than young people?
– Why is it so?
– Do you think time management is important?
– What usually happens when time isn’t managed correctly?
– Do you think someone is wasting time when he/she is not doing something, just sitting there?
– Do you think computers or electronic devices help us to manage time?
– Can you give a few examples of such devices?
– Do people who are not familiar with computers waste more time?

When G took the IELTS test in Kuwait he got the following questions in Reading, Writing and Speaking (G didn’t remember the topics in Listening.

Reading

Passage 1. About wind power and ways to harness it.

Passage 2. About human navigation.

Passage 3. About climate change discovery on a certain island in the Pacific region.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)


We were given two maps of a museum and its surroundings, in 1957 and 2007. We had to notice and describe the changes.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Many studies say that older people do not exercise enough. What are the reasons for this? What would you suggest to encourage them to exercise?

Speaking test

Interview
