Scored 8 in first attempt but.... need some advice.. (Ryan?)

Post by IndianHarry »

(Apologies in advance for the long read)

This was about a year ago when I appeared for the Academic module. My scores were R-9, L-9, W-7, S-7. I had about a month of preparation if my memory serves me well.

I am appearing again, this time on April 18 for the General module. I need at least 8 in each module. As I started teaching IELTS at a local institute after my first exam, I got good writing practice under my belt as I had to write IELTS essay samples almost daily. Also had the pleasure of attending a few seminars from IELTS experts from IDP. Learned a lot of good things, and as a result , I am confident about my chances in writing section.

What is bugging me though is that I have had zero improvements in my speaking. I haven't put any effort into it since my last exam. I feel awful when I listen to my own voice recordings and can't see how that kind of speaking can get me an 8. I am often out of ideas, have a voice as flat as it can be, and my vocabulary clearly is not as extensive as I believe a band 8 would require.

Worse of all, I don't know where to start working on my speaking ( A little embarrassing, admittedly, being an IELTS teacher myself).

Waiting eagerly for your suggestions.
